Backward from the launch date
Post was scheduled as tightly as the shoot — load, director's cut, agency edit, lock, color, VO and mix, finishing, approvals — sequenced to clear a hard national air date around the agency's holiday closures.

Case Study / Broadcast Production
Executive producing the national broadcast launch that put a family mandarin brand on the map — on a single-day build, in one Los Angeles location.
The Ask
Peelz — a three-generation, family-owned mandarin business — was stepping out from behind other brands to launch its own name for the first time. Venables Bell + Partners built the platform around a deceptively simple idea: life is complex, snacking doesn't have to be.
The creative centered on John Birk, an absurd “anti-spokesman” product demonstrator paired with an omniscient choir. My job as EP was to take that comedic concept off the page and onto broadcast — owning the production team and the full production, from bidding and crew through shoot, edit, finishing, and delivery.
The catch: the launch centered on a national broadcast spot, but the budget covered a single shoot day in one location. The ambition was national; the footprint was one day.
One shoot day. One Los Angeles supermarket. A national campaign.

The Constraint
The whole campaign had to be captured in a single day at one LA supermarket — shot day-to-night, interior and exterior, with access to the produce floor, backroom, breakroom, custodial room, and an exterior bus-shelter set.
Comedy is unforgiving on a one-day schedule: every performance and product beat had to land in the can before wrap, because there was no second day to fix anything.
Every approval milestone in pre-production was load-bearing. Miss one, and the overages start — so the schedule was built to protect the shoot day above everything else.

How It Got Made
Post was scheduled as tightly as the shoot — load, director's cut, agency edit, lock, color, VO and mix, finishing, approvals — sequenced to clear a hard national air date around the agency's holiday closures.
A single supermarket was scouted to deliver every environment the script needed — produce aisle, backroom, breakroom, custodial room, exterior — so a one-location budget carried a multi-scene spot.
With overages tied to missed milestones, casting, the mandarin-orange suit wardrobe, and location approvals ran as firm gates — keeping the client decisive so the shoot arrived fully locked.
Partnering with director Steve Mapp and the Lumberyard team, the day-to-night shoot covered every performance beat and the choir's running gag before wrap — no pickups, no second day.

The Outcome
“Thiz iz Peelz” launched nationally across broadcast, streaming, social, digital, and out-of-home — hitting every goal the brand set, with results that showed up on the balance sheet.
The Spots
The launch films, as they ran.

The Takeaway
A national launch on a one-day, one-location budget isn't a compromise — it's a plan. Lock every approval as a gate, scout one location that can be many, and protect the shoot day above all else. Get pre-production right and the single day delivers a national campaign.
